Move GoDaddy email to Google Workspace and keep your address
Want Gmail for the practice? Identify your GoDaddy mailbox product, plan old mail and shared resources, and switch delivery without changing your address.
Changing providers should not mean changing your email address.
Your domain and email appear on a GoDaddy bill. You want Gmail through Workspace, but do not want to tell every patient and referral partner to use a new address.
First establish which mailbox product you have. GoDaddy on the invoice is not enough to choose the transfer method—and canceling first can remove access you still need.
Keep the domain active and move mail in stages.
When you control the domain, you can generally keep the same addresses while changing mail providers. Registration and email delivery are separate jobs. The domain can stay at GoDaddy while Workspace handles mail.
Identify Microsoft 365 or the actual source system. Choose the supported Google migration route, prepare destination accounts, and copy supported data before switching new delivery.
Check more than your newest messages.
An inbox can look fine while older folders, contacts, or shared calendars are missing. Inventory what each person uses and what the transfer method supports. An IMAP email copy should not be treated as a calendar and contacts migration.
Compare messages and attachments across dates and folders. Recreate aliases and shared resources before someone reports missing mail.
Switch delivery after the destination is ready.
MX records tell other mail systems where incoming messages belong. Changing them does not copy the old inbox. Test incoming and outgoing messages, and account for mail received during the transition.
Keep source access until checks and retention needs are resolved. Cancel only the intended email subscription. Domain registration still needs to stay active.
Your next steps
- 1
Identify the source
Confirm the product in account billing or with support. A GoDaddy invoice alone does not establish the mailbox technology.
- 2
Prepare the destination
Verify the domain in Workspace and create the required accounts. Review the agreement and access controls before transferring patient information.
- 3
Copy and compare
Use the supported method for Microsoft 365 or the actual source. Check messages and separately account for calendars, contacts, and aliases.
- 4
Switch new mail
Update mail routing, test both directions, and complete a final comparison. Cancel only the intended email subscription once the transition is accepted.
Choose the right starting point
| What you have | What to investigate |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 through GoDaddy | Microsoft 365 migration method and administrator access |
| Another mailbox using IMAP | IMAP migration support and what it does not transfer |
| Only domain registration at GoDaddy | Identify the actual mail provider before planning |
| Shared calendars or contacts | A separate transfer and verification plan |
Confirm the account-specific route with the providers. No credentials should be sent in a website audit request.
Before you decide
Does the domain have to move too?
You can generally keep the domain registered where it is while changing the email provider. Registration keeps the address under your control; mail-routing records direct incoming messages to the chosen email service. Those are separate jobs even when one company bills you for both.
We would identify the email-related records and plan that switch while leaving registration active. If you also want a new website or registrar, we can sequence those changes so each has its own checks.
Will everything transfer automatically?
The transfer method determines which kinds of information move. Getting email messages into Workspace does not establish that calendars, contacts, aliases, or shared resources have also been recreated correctly. That is why the account inventory comes before the migration.
We identify what the practice uses, check what the selected method supports, and plan separate work for anything it leaves out. Staff then verify representative messages and shared resources before the source account closes.
